A honeymoon on Gili Air: where to stay and how to structure it

Home · Journal · A honeymoon on Gili Air: where to stay and how to structure it

No cars, no crowds, and a private villa with its own pool. What a week here actually looks like for two people.

Gili Meno gets called the honeymoon island because it has almost nothing else to offer. Gili Air gives you the same privacy with somewhere to go once the two of you want an evening out — and, on this property specifically, a room built for exactly this trip.

Where to stay on the island

Our Private Villa has its own pool and an outdoor daybed, an 80 square metre semi-outdoor bathroom open to the sky, and a gate nobody else on the property walks through. There are only two on the entire property — genuine scarcity, not a marketing line, and rates run from around €165 to €270 a night depending on season. Book as early as you can fix your dates; it is the first room type to sell out for July and August.

If the villa is taken, the Superior Room at 42 square metres, or a Deluxe Double with a pool view, still gets you the same turquoise doors and garden path that show up in every photo of this hotel, at a gentler rate of roughly €65–190 a night.

What to build the days around

A floating breakfast on your own pool, one evening at the romantic terrace table over a four-course dinner, a couples massage at Soma Vita — the Four Hands treatment, with two therapists working in mirrored sequence, is the one most couples remember afterward — and the walk to Sunset Point for the one hour a day the light is worth stopping for.

Beyond the property: a private boat to Pink Beach for a day with no schedule, or snorkelling the reef together before the day boats arrive and the turtles move further out.

A five-day shape, if you want one

Day 1 — arrival, floating breakfast the next morning, nothing else booked.

Day 2 — cycle the island (an hour if you dawdle), sauna and magnesium jacuzzi circuit in the evening.

Day 3 — the private boat day — Pink Beach or manta rays, weather depending.

Day 4 — couples massage at Soma Vita, dinner on the terrace by candlelight.

Day 5 — sunrise walk to Sunrise Point, a slow morning with nothing scheduled, depart.

What guests actually say

“A true slice of paradise,” reads one Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice review of the Private Villa specifically. “The most amazing stay here for our 30th wedding anniversary — everything was just perfect,” wrote another guest from Worcester, UK, which is a useful reminder that this works for anniversaries as much as honeymoons.
