Home · Experiences · Manta Point Nusa Penida

The same cleaning station as our snorkel trip, off Nusa Penida's south coast — on scuba this time, for a deeper and longer look at the manta rays than a surface swim allows.

It's the same long crossing as the snorkel trip — around two hours each way by boat — but this version is for certified divers, sitting at the cleaning station itself rather than watching from above. Mantas circle in to be cleaned by small wrasse, sometimes just a few metres off, and current and swell decide how long you get to stay there.

The water here runs cooler than Gili Air's, with thermoclines that can drop several degrees without warning, so a wetsuit is worth having even in the warmer months. Your guide handles positioning around the cleaning station — there's no touching or chasing the mantas, and no baiting to keep them around longer than they'd stay on their own.

Good to know. Open Water certification required. A 3mm wetsuit is recommended for the cooler water. If you'd rather snorkel than dive, ask us about the surface version of this trip instead.
