Gili Air weather and hotel prices: when to come, what it costs

The short version

Dry season (roughly April–October) is when the island looks like the photos, and when rates are highest. Wet season (November–March) brings short, heavy rain rather than grey all-day drizzle, and noticeably softer rates. The shoulder months either side of the July–August peak are usually the best trade of weather against price, on this property and most others on the island.

Dry season — April to October

Consistently sunny, humid rather than hot, with the calmest seas of the year for snorkelling and diving. July and August are the busiest and most expensive weeks on the island by a clear margin — every boat runs full, every restaurant is open, and the best rooms within a five-minute walk of the harbour are booked out months in advance.

If your dates are flexible at all, avoid the last two weeks of July and the first two of August specifically — that is where both crowds and prices peak hardest, sometimes by 30–40% against a May or September rate for the same room.

Wet season — November to March

Rain arrives in short, heavy bursts, usually an hour or two, rather than settling in for the day. Between showers the island is quieter and noticeably greener. This is where you will find the year’s softest room rates across every category, from the Standard Room up to the Private Villa, though boat crossings are more likely to be affected by weather, so build a spare day at each end of your trip rather than a same-day connection.

January and February see the heaviest rain; November and March are gentler entry and exit points into the wet season if you want the lower rates with less risk to your crossing being delayed.

The shoulder months worth knowing about

April to June, and September to October, are where most repeat guests aim for. The sea has settled into its dry-season calm, the island has not yet filled up, and rates sit below the July–August peak — often by a meaningful margin across every room type. September and October in particular tend to be the best value of the year against water visibility, and it is also when manta and hammerhead season is most reliable if diving is part of the plan.

What that looks like on an actual room rate

Our published rates run from roughly €55 a night for the Standard Room to €270 for the Private Villa, and every room moves with the same seasonal curve rather than each having its own pattern. A Standard Room booked in September might sit close to its €55 floor; the same room in the first week of August is far more likely to sit near the top of its range, if it is available at all by the time you look.

How to read rate movement in practice

Rates rise steadily from June, peak hard across July and August, then fall back through September. They bottom out somewhere in the wet season, with occasional short-notice dips around quiet weeks.
