Things You Can Do in Gili Air Island

Forget the traffic jams and the constant hum of city life. On Gili Air, the only "traffic" you'll encounter is a stray cow or a passing horse cart. There are no cars, no motorbikes, and absolutely no rush. It's just you, the ocean breeze, and a pair of bicycle wheels.

If you're looking for a spot to finally unplug, this island is it. Here's how to make the most of your time in paradise — and where to find the best vibes on the island.

Getting to Gili Air (and around it)

Most travelers reach Gili Air by fast boat from Bali, departing from Padang Bai, Sanur, or Serangan — the crossing takes roughly 2 hours depending on the port and sea conditions. Boats drop you straight onto the beach, no harbor hassle.

Once you're here, there's nothing to figure out: the whole island is car-free. You walk, cycle, or flag down a cidomo (horse cart) if your bags are heavy. You can ride the entire coastal loop in about 30 minutes, which tells you everything about how small — and how slow-paced — Gili Air really is.

Best time to visit: the dry season (roughly April to October) gives you the calmest seas for boat crossings and the clearest water for snorkeling. Shoulder months are quieter and the boat rides can get choppy in the wet season, so build in a little buffer if you're traveling November to March.

  1. Snorkel with Turtles (Right Off the Beach!)

You don't need a fancy expedition to see the locals. Just a few meters from the shoreline, the water turns into a technicolor dream of coral and sea turtles. You can find great spots on your own, but the "secret" ones are best reached by boat.

To skip the harbor hustle and confusing logistics, we can set up a personal, small-group snorkel trip for you. We'll handle the gear and the guides so you can just focus on not dropping your GoPro when a turtle swims by. Ask our team about booking a trip when you check in.

  1. Do Absolutely Nothing at the KOHO Air Pool

Exploration is great, but "do-nothing" days are essential. The pool at KOHO Air was built for exactly that. Grab a chilled drink, find a spot on the ledge, and let the island tunes do the rest. It's tucked into tropical greenery — the perfect escape when the afternoon heat kicks in.

  1. Cycle Around the Island at Golden Hour

Since Gili Air is tiny, you can cycle the entire coastal perimeter in about 30 minutes. The best time to do it is golden hour. As the sun dips, the whole island glows amber and you'll pedal past beach bars, smiling locals, and hidden cafés. It's the simplest joy on the island, but usually the one people remember most.

  1. Reset Your System at Soma Vita

Self-care isn't a luxury here — it's the standard. Inside KOHO Air, Soma Vita is where you go to melt away travel fatigue. Whether it's a deep Balinese massage or time in the jacuzzi, the therapists here have magic hands. You'll walk out feeling like a different person.

Planning your trip around some real recovery time? This is a good place to start.

  1. Chill at KOHO’s Bars & Restaurant

When the sun goes down, the energy shifts to the KOHO Air Bars & Restaurant. We've got a mix of local Indonesian flavors and international comfort food (the homemade pasta is a must-try). It's a great spot to sip a tropical cocktail, feel the sea breeze, and swap travel stories with new friends.

  1. Go Freediving

If you want to go deeper — literally — try a freediving course. Gili Air is a hub for it, teaching you how to dive on a single breath. It's less a sport and more a meditation: all about mindfulness and feeling at peace under the surface.

  1. Floating Breakfast

Why eat at a table when you can eat in the pool? At KOHO Air, we do a legendary floating breakfast — fresh fruit platters, pancakes, and coffee served on a tray while you soak. It's the ultimate vacation-mode move, and it looks pretty great on the 'gram too.

  1. Saturday BBQ Night at KOHO

Saturdays are a big deal at KOHO Air. We light up the grill for our weekly BBQ Night, featuring fresh-caught seafood and local meats. With live music and a crowd of fellow travelers, it's the heart of the island's social scene. Come for the food, stay for the dancing under the stars.
