A shallow reef ledge on Gili Air's east coast, a short swim from the beach, where green turtles surface for air and graze the sea grass most mornings.

Turtle Point sits just past the house reef, in three to ten metres of water calm enough for a first-time snorkeller and clear enough that you'll usually see a turtle before you're properly out of your depth. Green turtles graze here on sea grass and sponge through the morning, surfacing every few minutes for air.

It's a swim-out or a five-minute boat ride, whichever the tide favours that day. A guide comes with you, mostly to keep a respectful distance from the turtles enforced — no touching, no chasing, no blocking their path to the surface — rather than to point anything out; a Gili Air turtle is not shy.

Good to know. No certification or experience needed. Reef-safe sunscreen only. Mornings are calmest and see the most turtle activity; we'll time the tide for you.
