A weighted line dropped into open water off Gili Air, marked every few metres — the same setup Gili's freediving schools use for depth training, from a first breath-hold to a supervised run past twenty metres.

The morning starts on the surface: breathing patterns, equalisation, and a static breath-hold to get comfortable before anyone descends. From there it's a series of line dives, each a little deeper than the last, with a safety diver stationed at depth and another shadowing you from the surface the whole way down and back.

How deep you go is a conversation, not a target — some mornings end at twelve metres, some push past thirty for divers already comfortable in the water. Nobody free-dives alone here; the line, the safety divers and the instructor's read of how you're doing all decide the day's depth together.

Good to know. No prior experience required for an introduction; multi-day AIDA courses available for certification. A short medical fitness declaration is required before your first descent.
