A sunken jetty pontoon settled upright on the sand off Gili Air, now a soft-coral frame at thirty metres, full of glassfish and a resident scorpionfish.

The pontoon sits upright on a sand bottom, close enough to Gili Air's own drop-off that it's usually paired with a second dive along the reef wall. “Bounty” is the local dive shops' nickname for it, not a claim on its history — nobody keeps records on a structure this size. What matters more is what's grown on it since: soft coral over the frame, a resident school of glassfish moving through what's left of the structure, and a scorpionfish that's held the same ledge for as long as anyone's been diving it.

Thirty metres puts it past the range most Gili Air dives ask of you, with less light and less margin for error than the reef dives above it — local shops want Advanced certification and real logged depth before they'll take you down.

Good to know. Advanced Open Water certification and logged deep dives. Full rental gear available. Usually run as the second of two dives, with a reef dive first.
