Along the waterline at either end of the day, at walking pace, with the strait on one side.
Rides go out at sunrise and again before sunset, when the sand is firm and the heat has gone. An hour takes you along the west shore at a walk, through the shallows, with Lombok across the water on one side and the island's palms on the other.
You do not need to have ridden before. Every horse is led or accompanied by a handler, children ride with someone alongside, and the pace stays a walk unless you ask otherwise and can hold it. Book a day ahead — there are only so many horses and the sunset slot goes first.
